Two Practice Sessions now remain, and it is hoped that the weather will improve as a number of competitors still remain to qualify for next week’s races.
For the second time in succession, practising was curtailed when sea mist closed in on the western stretches of the course last night. Just a single lap was able to be completed, and that was confined to those riding in the Classic and Ultra Lightweight classes.
It is from within the Classic ranks that the majority of those in difficulty with qualifying come, so they will go out first in tonight’s session, which is due to commence at 6.15pm. The other classes will go at 7.10pm.
The first races are now as near as Bank Holiday Monday, when the Newcomers and Senior Classic events are due to open the main programme.
Fastest of the newcomers so far is Russell Mountford (600cc Yamaha) from Wigan at 109.631mph achieved in Wednesday evening’s practice session.
In the Senior Classic the way is led by Ryan Farquhar (500 Paton) from Dungannon at 108.093mph.
Best speed of all practice participants is Michael Weldon (600cc Yamaha) from Swords in Eire at 116.202mph, also set in Wednesday’s outing. Quickest in last night’s single lap was Alan Oversby (500 Norton) from Bolton le Sands at 105.126mph.
Casualty Update: Dave Hughes (crashed at Union Mills on Monday) broken left arm and four ribs; Neil Cudworth (crashed at Alpine Cottage on Wednesday)shoulder, elbow and hand injuries; Kevin Fitzpatrick (crashed at the Waterworks on Wednesday) discharged after treatment of injuries to right thumb and shoulder); Robert Gordon (crashed at the Waterworks on Wednesday) discharged after treatment of injuries to groin soft tissue and grazed hip; Marie Hodgson (crashed at the Waterworks on Wednesday) sore knee.
Two significant changes of machine: Chris McGahan changes from Seeley G50 to 475cc Aermacchi in the Senior Classic; Sam Dunlop changes from 600cc Honda to 250cc Honda in the Junior
